Mines Ministry Questions KrisEnergy Over Missing Oil Case

The Ministry of Mines and Energy has been in talks with KrisEnergy over 300,000 barrels of missing oil after the company announced bankruptcy.

The ministry’s Director General of Petroleum HE Cheap Sour said on Tuesday that the ministry is questioning KrisEnergy over the case, but has yet to reach any conclusion.

According to Samdech Hun Sen’s announcement on Sunday, KrisEnergy secretly left Cambodia with a ship full of crude oil to Thailand and then disappeared.

On the same day, PM Hun Sen also announced the collapse of the kingdom’s first oil product.

Regarding this matter, HE Cheap Sour said that since Kris Energy declared bankruptcy, there haven’t been any firms conducting research or applied for investment in Block A yet.

Cambodia announced the first drop of oil on 29 December 2020. As planned, production of 7,500 barrels per day was expected, but in reality, it was as low as only 1,000 barrels per day. This is one of the factors leading KrisEnergy to declare bankruptcy. (Read more)
