Cambodia’s Coastal Wealth: Minister of Land Envisions $2 Billion Annual Contribution

In a visionary statement, His Excellency Say Sam Al, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction (MLMUPC), revealed the immense economic potential of the Cambodian Sea, projecting a substantial annual contribution of approximately US$2 billion to the nation. The declaration came during a pivotal meeting on 8 January 2024, convened to assess the progress of the Kep Public Beach Resort Development Project by the National Committee for Coastal Management and Development of Cambodia.

Addressing the gathering, HE Say Sam Al emphasized the pivotal role of the coastal area as a significant economic powerhouse for Cambodia, serving as a cornerstone supporting national economic growth. He articulated the potential of the sea to contribute a staggering US$2 billion annually to the nation’s coffers.

The meeting witnessed a convergence of efforts between the MLMUPC and the Ministry of Tourism. Both ministries forged a shared vision for the management and development of Cambodia’s coastal areas, positioning them as economic catalysts propelling the nation’s growth. The goal is for Cambodia’s coastal regions to shine as a beacon in the southwest, earning recognition as a member of the prestigious Coastal Club, celebrated as the most beautiful in the universe.

As discussions unfolded, the ministries explored strategies for the completion of the 2,700-meter-high luxury public beach development project in Kep province. Additionally, plans were unveiled for the creation of coastal cycling routes seamlessly connecting the four provinces of Cambodia’s coastal regions, presenting enticing tourism products that showcase the natural beauty of Cambodia’s coastline.
