Ministry of Environment to Organise Green Housing Competition

The Ministry of Environment is to organise a competition on designing sustainable housing.
According to a post on the Ministry of Environment Facebook page on 3 October, 2018, H.E Say Samal said that “the ministry will consider organising a competition among boreys and to encourage to those who care about and love the environment”.

The statement was made during a meeting with owners of boreys and condominiums where discussions were held to find solutions for creating a strategic plan for a sustainable environment. About 40 companies participated in the meeting

During the discussion, H.E Say Samal asked the owners of the housing projects to think of problems including pipes, drainage systems, segregation and management of trash, as well as how to construct environmentally friendly houses.

The competition initiative is in line with UNDP’s “Sustainable Development” goals. Earlier this year, UNDP collaborated with Building Trust International to organise a sustainable design competition for affordable housing for 3,400 workers living in the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone.
