Ministry of Public Works Calls for Private Sector on EV Installation Investment

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has invited and welcomed private companies wishing to invest in the establishment or installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, stating that the investment will contribute to promoting the use of emission-free vehicles in Cambodia.

The remarks were made by HE Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport on the MPWT LIVE SHOW held on Thursday 26 May.

HE Sun Chanthol stated that investors should contact the ministry for applications and Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) for applying for a power supply license.

The ministry is cooperating with other relevant ministries and institutions to make a joint declaration regarding the establishment or installation of EV charging stations, he said.

In addition, the ministry has partnered with petroleum stations – Caltex, Total, PTT, Sokimex, and Tela on the installation of EV charging stations at their stations.

EV charging stations currently are installed on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway and also on major national roads.

As of 14 May 2022, the ministry has registered 148 EVs, including 110 vehicles and 38 motorcycles and tricycles.

The growth of electric vehicles in the first five months of 2022 was 84 units, an 800% increase compared to the same period in 2021.
