MLMUPC plans to renovate 2 boulevards in Phnom Penh using AI technology

The Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction plans to renovate two major boulevards in Phnom Penh, Norodom Boulevard and Sisowath Quay, using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. During a recent workshop, HE Leang Monirith, Secretary of State of the Ministry, shared this information.

At the workshop, Brian Wong, an architectural expert from Singapore, shared his experiences in infrastructure development with hundreds of Cambodian experts and participants. Additionally, Cambodian AI expert Mr Sim Dara emphasized the significance of AI technology in urban planning.

The Secretary of State announced that certain areas along Norodom Boulevard and Sisowath Quay will be analyzed and enhanced aesthetically through AI technology to visualize their future designs.

In the context of urban planning, HE Deputy Prime Minister Say Sam Al, also the Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, stressed the importance of improving the boulevards in Phnom Penh. He highlighted the need for walkways to encourage residents to walk more, whether to work, shops, schools, or for exercise. The lack of sidewalks in many areas has contributed to traffic congestion, as people tend to use motorcycles and cars instead of walking or cycling, even for short distances.

In 2024, the Ministry is set to implement new strategies to enhance cities across the country, focusing on improving public spaces for better community well-being.

Notably, the Phnom Penh Capital Administration has identified three primary locations for developing a 57-hectare pedestrian street, referred to as Pub Street, in front of the Cambodia Post. This initiative is expected to be operational by the Global New Year in 2025. (Read more)
