New US$900m Siem Reap Airport Aiming for 67% Completion in 2021

Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. (AIAI) will accelerate the construction progress of the new Siem Reap International Airport, aiming for 67% completion by 2021, and full completion by 2023 as planned.

AIAI revealed this 2021 plan during a site inspection by Siem Reap Governor HE Tea Seiha on 06 February.

The company reported that by the end of 2020, the overall project was about 35% complete, 15% for the passenger terminal and 10% for the flying zone.

For 2021, the company has vowed to complete the construction of passenger terminal by 78%, 45% for the flying zones, and overall infrastructure of 50%.

AIAI has also provided assurances that flights will not cause negative impacts on Angkor Wat and the surrounding architecture. Moreover, the firm is also taking environmental factor into serious account while constructing the airport.

The new airport is located in South Nikom district, approximately 51km from Siem Reap downtown or 40km from Angkor Wat. The construction began on 15 March 2020 and is scheduled to be completed by 2023.

The airport is being built on a 700-hectare plot with a 1,000-hectare special economic zone with an investment of over US$900 million. (Read more)
