OCIC, Cambodia Airports Continue Talks on Cooperation Over New Airport Development

The request for a joint venture and cooperation in the new Phnom Penh airport development project by Cambodia Airports to OCIC is still on the table, but is yet to be finalised, according to the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA)’s spokesman last week.

The proposal was raised by Vinci Airports and SCA, commonly known as Cambodia Airports, in early 2020. The firms intended to cooperate with OCIC in any of the process, ranging from architectural design, financing, construction, to final operation. (Read more)

However, since then there has not been any conclusion yet regarding the cooperation.

SSCA’s Sin Chansereyvutha, told Construction & Property Magazine last week that the talks are still ongoing to seek agreement.

“The talks focus on whether or not the two parties can cooperate. When it will be concluded absolutely depends on when they can reach the consensus,” he said.

To date, construction of the new US$1.5-billion airport is approximately 40% complete. The surge in community outbreak and lockdown has affected progress, but not on a large scale.

Overall, the project is going as planned and aims for 60% completion by end of this year, said the spokesman.
