Over Usd84 Million Spent on Poipet-PP Rail Link Renovation

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport launched a train service from Pursat to Battambang province on 29 May which is the third milestone for the ministry towards the goal of completing the Poipet – Phnom Penh line by July this year.

Consuming government budget of USD17.1 million, the Battambang-Pursat line is 107 kilometres long with a total of 16 stops. The 48-kilometre Poipet-Serey Sophorn line and the 65-kilometre Serey Sophorn-Battambang line were launched on 4 April and 28 April respectively.

“At this stage, we have so far finished a total of 220 kilometres line all the way from Poipet to Pursat province by using the government budget of USD84.3 million. The line crosses three provinces Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, and Pursat with a total of 30 stops,” said H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport.

Meanwhile, the line from Pursat to Phnom Penh is scheduled to done by July. After that, Cambodia will see 386-kilometre Poipet-Phnom Phnom Penh line completed, with passengers able to connect on to Bangkok by switching to Thailand’s network at the Khmer-Thai border town of Poipet.

“Connecting Phnom Penh to the Thai border is considered one of the key parts of Cambodia’s logistic master plan and is also is a part of the eastern corridor of the Singapore-Kunming Rail Link, that aims to improve the connectivity among ASEAN members,” said H.E. Sun Chanthol.
