PM Embraces “Khmer Can Do It” Motto: Cambodia Puts Best Effort to Self-Finance Infrastructure Projects

Cambodia Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen has proudly embraced the “Khmer Can Do It” slogan, stating Cambodia will put its best effort to self-finance and build its own infrastructure development projects if possible, aiming to reduce reliance on FDI or development partners.

PM Hun Sen made the remarks during the site visit to various infrastructure developments in Sihanoukville on 01 December.

“Cambodia is always saving money to self-finance our own infrastructure development projects. With our own budget, we can build anything, anywhere, anytime. For example, the 34-road project in Sihanoukville and the 38-road project in Siem Reap are all government’ budget,” said PM Hun Sen.

“However, the COVID-19 crisis made us spend over US$2.3 billion of the national savings. Therefore, for now, we must continue to ask for help from our development partners,” he added.

Besides, PM Hun Sen also stated that all the equipment, materials, and technologies used to build the infrastructure in Cambodia must be brand new and modern, not second-hand or old. For instance, the wastewater treatment system in Sihanoukville has been using the latest technology from Israel.

“We have experience of using second-hand goods from Europe. When they were broken, we could not find spare parts as they had already stopped producing. Now, we have to use the brand new one because “Khmer Can Do It” said PM Hun Sen.
