PM Hun Sen Asks Private Companies to Enhance Quality of Internet Services to Remote Tourism Areas

Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, has requested telecom and internet providers to strengthen their services in cities and expand to remote tourism areas.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen made the remarks at the Closing Ceremony of the Tourism General Meeting, Summary of The First Phase (2022-2021), and H1 of 2022 of Plan Summary of Rehabilitate and Promote Cambodia’s Tourism Sector in and after the Covid-19 Crisis and Set Direction of the Plan to Rehabilitate Tourism Sector in The Second Phase (H2 of 2022-2023) on 14 July 2022.

“…The strengthening aims to attract tourists to visit remote tourist areas with the need of internet service support because sometimes they go and sleep there [at any tourism destinations], but they work because nowadays they don’t meet face to face, they just use video call instead…”, said Samdech Techo.

“So, this is the point I recommend restrengthening to promote local tourism”, he stressed.

The problem of telephone and internet service is an issue that happens in urban and remote areas, the same way that leaders and the general public see this problem.

In addition, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT) recently introduced measures to address telephone and internet services throughout Cambodia.

The MPT has created eight special working groups to improve the quality of service in Boreys in Phnom Penh by terminating the exclusive right contract of any operators, who provide internet service and requesting the cooperation of the Borey owners to improve the quality of service.

In addition, the MPT also has created working groups for five regions throughout the country to inspect, collect data and count the number of antenna stations that the operators have never provided, despite the Ministry’s request.

The MPT will push the exchange of equipment and technology, as well as the construction of additional antenna stations to improve service quality.
