PM Sets North Eastern Provinces as 4th Economic Pole Focusing on Agro-Industry & Mineral Resources

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen will transform the northeastern provinces into Cambodia’s fourth economic pole based on two potentials— agro-industry and mineral resources.

PM announced the plan during the inauguration ceremony of NR7 in Kratie on 7 February.

“Cambodia has three major economic poles: Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Siem Reap, and the Northeast will be the fourth as they are abundant in agro-industrial products and mineral resources,” said PM Hun Sen.

As of early February, Cambodia’s first commercial gold mining plant in Mondulkiri has refined more than 1,700 kilograms, Samdech added, citing that the provinces still have more mineral resources.

This northeastern area will be connected by NR7, a potential route connecting Phnom Penh to major provinces such as Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Kratie, Stung Treng and towards Mondulkiri, and Ratanakkiri.
