PP City Hall Unveils Plan to Build Three More Wastewater Treatment Plants by 2035

The Phnom Penh Municipality in cooperation with JICA has unveiled plans to build three more wastewater treatment plants from 2026 to 2035, following the ground-breaking on the Beoung Choeung Ek plant in May.

According to the Sustainable City Development Plan for Phnom Penh (2018-2035), Boeung Trabek, Boeng Tumpun and Boeung Ta Mok have been selected as potential locations for the construction of three projects, which will be implemented in three phases.

The construction of each phase will start in 2026, 2031, and 2035, respectively with the capacity to treat wastewater up to 58,000m3, 38,000m3, and 181,000m3 per day.

Nevertheless, the same source added the timelines of the project are subjected to change depending on financial sources from the development partners.

JICA is also the development partner funding the under-construction Choeung Ek wastewater treatment plant. With ground broken in May, this US$27-million Choeung Ek wastewater treatment is scheduled to be completed in 2023 and has the capacity to treat water up to 5000 m3 per day. (Read more)
