PPSEZ Launches Sustainable Affordable Housing Design Competition

The Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSEZ) has recently announced a competition for designs for 3,000 units of their affordable housing project for low-income workers.

The competition is being hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSEZ) Plc and Building Trust International with the goal to improve the social, environmental and economic well-being of Cambodia’s special economic zones.

Sustainability is main theme of this design challenge. The winning design will result in the development of a community that meets the basic needs of its residents, including amenities and features such as stores, cafes, a day care centre, a clinic and parks.

The winner will receive a cash prize of USD20,000, and the second to fifth place winners will each receive USD5,000.

The competition that is open to everyone both national and international design professionals, engineers, architects, as well as students specializing in those fields. All candidate can submit their design between May and July via Building Trust International website.

The results will be announced by August. After the design is finalised, the project is expected break ground in November this year.
