Prime Minister Pushes for Faster Distribution of Land Titles to Citizens

Prime Minister Sandech Hun Manet has urged the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction to accelerate the distribution of land titles to the people of Cambodia. Currently, only about two million land titles have been distributed, while five million more are yet to be issued.

During a recent gathering with garment workers at a Special Economic Zone in Prey Nob district, Sihanoukville province on 7 November, the prime minister emphasised that most people in Cambodia do not have land ownership certificates, and only have the right to possess and use the land. Therefore, the government has been pushing for the distribution of land titles.

The Ministry of Land Management has registered about seven million land plots, and some two million land titles have been distributed to citizens so far.

“I also agreed in principle to mobilise all resources from the national and capital-provincial levels to distribute land titles promptly, to allow people to use them without further delay,” said the PM.

The move is expected to benefit many Cambodians who have been living on land without proper documentation. With the distribution of land titles, they will have legal ownership of their land, which will provide them with greater security and stability.
