Progress on Phnom Penh’s Drainage System Project Reaches 93% Completion

The ambitious project aimed at constructing a comprehensive drainage infrastructure along National Road 4 in Phnom Penh is now 93% complete, indicating significant progress in efforts to mitigate flooding in the city.

During an on-site inspection on 2 June 2025, HE Heang Vutha, Director General of the General Department of Technical Services and Head of the Project Technical Working Group, alongside HE Chao Sophaphibal, Director General of the General Department of Wastewater Treatment Systems at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, evaluated the project’s advancement. The visit aimed at ensuring that both technical specifications and project timelines are being adhered to, assessing overall efficiency, and addressing any challenges encountered.

In their discussions, HE Heang Vutha and HE Chao Sophaphibal urged the technical staff and construction teams to maintain a strong focus on timely project implementation to meet the upcoming completion deadline in July 2025.

The drainage system, managed by PHNOM PENH PRECAST PLANTS CO., LTD. and T.C.M. ENGINEERING COMPANY LTD., was launched on 5 July 2024. This significant box culvert project is designed to alleviate rain-induced flooding in Kambol and Por Sen Chey districts, thereby enhancing public health, hygiene, and the overall aesthetic of the city.

As the project nears its completion, residents of Phnom Penh can look forward to improved drainage capabilities, contributing to a safer and cleaner urban environment.
