RGC Cuts Over 7000 Hectares from Natural Protected Areas in Three Provinces for LASED III

The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has decided to cut 7653 hectares from natural protected areas in three provinces for people living in poverty under the Land Allocation for Social and Economic Development Phase III (LASED III) project, according to the three separate sub-decrees, of which two of them are dated on 10 January and one other dated on 13 April 2022.

RGC has reclassified the 7653 hectares from state public land to state private land in natural protected areas including:

  • 6000 hectares in the biodiversity corridor of protected area system located in Roveak and Me Mom village, Ro Yor commune and Chi Klop village, Sok San commune, Kaoh Nheaek district, Mondulkiri province.
  • 1213 hectares in Forest Cover 2002 located in Koul commune, Prasat Sambour​ district, Kampong Thom province.
  • 440 hectares in Forest Cover 2002 located in Poy Char commune, Phnom Srok district, Banteay Meanchey province.

All the reclassified lands have been handed over to the State Land Management Committees of the three provincial administrations to manage and allocate in accordance with the procedures in force.

In relevance to LASED III, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction recently announced the launch of LASED III to provide land occupation, agricultural development, social services, and community infrastructure.

LASED III is being implemented with a total budget of US$107 million, of which US$93 million is a loan from the World Bank and another US$14 million is a contribution from RGC. (Read more)
