Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Ministry of Interior Samdech Sar Kheng this morning presided over the grand opening ceremony for the official use of Road No. 1577 connecting Rattanak Mondul District to the Khmer-Thai border in Samlot District of Battambang Province.

This 51.8 kilometre section road section has been undergoing upgrading work for about 23 months and was completed in late 2017. The new upgraded road is now 9 metres wide and covered with DBST asphalt type.

The road section cost USD 38 million and has been constructed under a combination of a loan from the government of China and the Cambodian government budget.

“Road No. 1577 is a very important road and is the first asphalt road in Samlot District connecting the city of Battambang. This road section can be used both for economic development and national security purposes. It connects the central area, to the upper lowland, to the west side of the country, and all the way to the border of Trat Province of Thailand.
