Royal Group Invests US$35 million Building 70km of Roads on Koh Rong Island

The Royal Group has injected US$35 million to build 70km of concrete roads on Koh Rong Island, as part of the firm’s development masterplan.

The 70km of road is to be built by Sinohydro Construction Co Ltd from China, and the construction agreement was signed on 14 July at Preah Sihanouk province.

According to a press release from the Royal Group, the project is costing US$35 million and will take 16 months to complete in line with the infrastructure development master plan approved by the Council for the Development of Cambodia in 2010.

Preah Sihanouk Provincial Governor H.E Kuoch Chamroeun said at the signing ceremony that the infrastructure development on Koh Rong Island indicates the new progress of the Royal Group’s efforts to boost development on the island as mentioned on the contract with the government.

“The firm has started the construction of hotels, and now they are building 70km of the concrete road. After that, there will be the construction of other infrastructure such as an electricity grid, clean water system, airport, and so on,” Chamroeun said.

The Royal Group was granted a 99-year lease on Koh Rong in 2008, to transform the island to become a commercial hub and natural tourism resort.

In late 2019, the Royal Group announced a US$285 million joint venture investment with China’s Royal Galaxy Group to develop Koh Rong into a world-class resort. The project will also include building an airport and solar power stations on the island as. (Read more)
