Samdech Cancels Land-Clearing Requests, Emphasizing Registration First

Prime Minister Hun Manet has announced the cancellation of all land-clearing requests. He emphasized that the registration process must be completed before any land can be cleared to prevent fraudulent activities. This announcement was made during the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the 70th Brigade, held on the morning of October 15, 2024, at the brigade’s headquarters.

During the event, Samdech Thipadei pointed out that the requests for land clearance sought to claim land in national park areas. Upon inspection, it was noted that residents were unaware of the specific locations, and there were no indications of impoverished families in those areas.

Recently, there were two requests representing 300 families seeking to clear between 1,000 and 2,000 hectares of land. However, Samdech decided to cancel these requests after His Excellency Say Sam Al confirmed that no impoverished families were present and that the land in question was entirely within the national park.

Samdech also stressed that the Royal Government is actively working on establishing clear land measurement procedures, particularly for state and private lands. He stated that future land requests would have a clear measurement process to prevent large-scale fraud.

Furthermore, he warned that those attempting to bypass these protocols would face legal consequences. For individuals without land, the Royal Government plans to implement a straightforward measurement mechanism so that requests can identify which lands belong to the state and which are privately owned.
