Serey Sophorn – Poipet Train Service Launched

Poipet Station

The train service connecting Serey Sophorn to Poipets launched its first test service in early April and will officially open for service on 04 April with a special promotion offering free rides until July 31, 2018.

Each scheduled service can carry up to 100 passengers and will have three return services per day at 7:00am, 10:30am and 2:15pm departing from Poipet.

The rail service will not only reduce the cost of travelling, but will also help reduce road accidents and energy consumption.

The completion of the Serey Sophorn – Poipet line is a small part of a bigger project to connect Phnom Penh to Bangkok by rail. Connecting Phnom Penh to the Thai border is considered one of the key parts of Cambodia’s logistic master plan and is also is a part of the eastern corridor of the Singapore-Kunming Rail Link, that aims to improve the connectivity among ASEAN members.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has yet to confirm however when the whole project will be completed.

Meanwhile, the Airport Train from downtown Phnom Penh to the airport also launched its first test service line on 01 April.
