Seven Expressways Worth US$6.5 Billion to Boost Logistics Network in Mekong Delta Region

At least seven expressways with a total length of over 1,000 km are gradually emerging on the Mekong Delta region in the next 5 to 10 years, marking another major infrastructure that regional logistic system. 

 

According to Vietnam VnExpress, those seven projects include:

 

1. Trung Luong-My Thuan Expressway Project

The project has a total length of 51 km and is being built with an investment value of US$545 million. With ground broken in 2009, the route has already reached 65% completion and is scheduled to open temporarily in April.

 

2. My Thuan-Can Tho Expressway Project

This 23km expressway connects the My Thuan Bridge 2 in Tien Giang province to Can Tho. Worth an estimated value of US$208 million, the construction is scheduled begin in November and will be completed in 2023.

 

3. Can Tho-Ca Mau Expressway Project

 The Ministry of Transport is currently studying the feasibility of a four-lane expressway project connecting Can Tho-Ca Mau. This route has a total length of 130-kilometer and is expected to cost US$ 2 billion.

 

4. Lo Te-Rach Soi Expressway Project

The 4-lane expressway has a total length of 51 km and is being developed under an investment of US$ 272.4 million. With ground broken in 2016, the project is scheduled to be completed by mid-October 2021.

 

5. My An-Cao Lanh Expressway Project

The 26-kilometre road is expected to be constructed between 2021-2025. The estimated cost of this project will be US$ 164.3 million, which is will a loan from South Korea and the state budget.

 

6. Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang Expressway Project

The 155-kilometre expressway is located along the Hau River in the An Giang area near the Cambodian border. The project is estimated to cost US$ 1.3 billion, while the construction is scheduled to begin in 2023. The project will take three years to be completed.

 

7. Ha Tien-Rach Gia-Bac Lieu Expressway Project

 Worth over US$ 1.43 billion, this 225-kilometer expressway is expected to begin construction in 2024 and set for completion by 2026. 

 

Vietnam’s Transport Minister Nguyen Van The recently said that the nation is striving to build a total of 5,000km of expressways by 2030 and over 9,000km by 2050, according to Vietnam Plus. (Read more)
