Siem Reap establishes clearer state land map to end deforestation & land encroachment

The Siem Reap Provincial Administration has established a clearer map for Zone 3 in Sangkat Chong Kneas to put an end to deforestation and land encroachment around the Tonle Sap lake area.

Siem Reap Governor HE Tea Seiha inspected the sites on Tuesday 27 December to publicly showcase the map and demarcate the clear border.

HE Tea Seiha said that the flooded forest is important biodiversity of the Tonle Sap lake. But, the flooded forest lands have been taken illegally every year. Thus, actions must be taken.

This map establishment and other actions were implemented after Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen ordered an immediate seizure of all the illegally owned mangrove forest land in the Tonle Sap region from encroachers regardless of their social status. (Read more)
