Siem Reap Organic Fertiliser Plant Worth About US$1.8M Officially Breaks Ground

The Siem Reap Administration has started construction on a plant to process sludge from sewers into organic fertilizer, which is worth about 1.7 million Euro (about US$1.8 million) funded by the Association Internationale des Maires Francophones (AIMF), after a ground-breaking ceremony on 25 May 2022.

This project is located in Sangkat Svay Dankum, Siem Reap city, Siem Reap province including the construction of sludge processing stations, sludge storage ponds, and planting reeds.

When complete, this plant has a storage capacity of 45 cubic meters per day, which can produce about 1,000 cubic meters of fertilizer per year, without a negative impact on the quality of water flowing out of the filter.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Siem Reap Deputy Governor Prak Sophorn said that the project is very important in sludge processing from sewage in Siem Reap to improve the management system of wastewater from sewage and produce fertilizer to supply the agricultural sector and improve the livelihood of farmers.

Under the cooperation with AIMF, Siem Reap is the second place for the construction of a plant to process sludge from sewers after the first one in Phnom Penh, on which ground was also recently broken.
