Smart Transport System to Pilot at New PP Airport, Satellite Cities, & Major NRs by 2023

Cambodia is cooperating with South Korea to develop a master plan for an Intelligent Transport System (ITS), with the first trial to be launched at the new Phnom Penh Airport, satellite cities around Phnom Penh, and some major national roads by 2023.

This is according to a meeting between the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Korea on Wednesday 18 August.

MWPW’s General Department of Land Transport chief Chhuon Von said that South Korea has already agreed to assist the Cambodia Intelligent Transport System (ITS) project in the form of ODA.

The study is scheduled to be completed in August 2022 and will be piloted in 2023 at the new Phnom Penh new airport, satellite cities around Phnom Penh, and major national road networks such as NR1, NR4 and NR5, according to HE Chhuon Von.

“This intelligent transportation system is a modern technology that can be used to manage the road network and facilitate transportation management in real-time,” said HE Chhuon Vorn.

“Besides, the system can also help collect traffic information without harming the environment, analyse, utilise it to make the traffic system run smoothly,” he added.
