Temporary Closure of Shipping Lanes for conducting the essential testing of Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge Construction

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has temporarily closed certain shipping lanes on the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers to conduct essential testing for the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge construction site. This important infrastructure project will connect Phnom Penh with Kandal province.

The study is expected to disrupt normal navigation in the affected areas. The Ministry urges all citizens, operators, and water transport companies to exercise heightened caution during this time. To ensure safety on the waterways, the MPWT has outlined several important guidelines:

  1. Reduce Speed: Vessels should slow down and navigate in designated safe zones, which will be marked with signs and safety equipment.
  2. Maintain Distance: Keep a minimum distance of 50 meters from other vessels to prevent collisions, especially in narrow passages or near the construction site.
  3. Prioritize Project Team: Operators should yield to the project study team and follow all signals and instructions from the waterway traffic management team.
  4. Anchoring Restrictions: No vessels can anchor or remain stationary within 100 meters of the designated study area.
  5. Designated Passing Routes: All vessels passing through the study area must adhere to the approved routes indicated by the authorities.

The Ministry appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation as this project progresses. These measures are in place to ensure the safety of all waterway users. Further updates will be provided as the project develops.
