Mondulkiri’s Skyward Ambitions: Private Sector Gains Approval for New Airport Investment

The Cambodian government has granted approval for the exploration and investment in the Mondulkiri Airport project to the FOCUS Consortium, led by FOCUS Consulate Global Venture. Notification No. 41 of the NCC, dated 9 January 2024, signifies the government’s commitment to propel Mondulkiri into a hub of progress.

Beyond the scope of the airport, the government has extended permission for the FOCUS Consortium to invest in a multi-purpose satellite city and an air cargo center in Mondulkiri under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) framework. This strategic decision aligns with Cambodia’s vision for comprehensive infrastructure development and economic growth.

The Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation is authorized to collaborate with the Fukers Group, ensuring that the project adheres to Cambodia’s regulatory landscape. This dynamic collaboration reflects the government’s commitment to partnering with industry leaders to bring about sustainable development.

A prior decision by the Royal Government selected Powerchina International Group, a Chinese company, to conduct a feasibility study for the new regional airport in Mondulkiri. (Read more)

The current project, located in Sen Monorom commune, Oreang district, Mondulkiri province, has been under scrutiny since 2019, with the feasibility study slated for completion early next year.
