Gov’t Designates Four Areas as Techo Historical Heritage for Cultural &Tourism Development

The Cambodian government has officially designated four areas, collectively known as the Techo Historical Heritage Area, in Sub-Decree No. 155 dated 11 July 2023. These areas encompass the Military Historical Area within the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Military Zones, along with the Anlong Veng Historical Area.

The primary objective behind this designation is to ensure the protection of natural environments, the preservation of national heritage, and the development of military historical sites, fostering both national and international tourism. The government aims to maintain former political and military sites, armed bases, and battlefields for educational purposes, providing a platform for the international community to study and understand Cambodia’s journey towards peace and prosperity.

Notably, the 3rd Military Zone boasts 31 military historical sites spanning Koh Kong, Kampong Speu, Takeo, Kampot, Kep, and Sihanoukville. The 4th Military Zone encompasses 26 sites in Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces, while the 5th Military Zone houses 30 sites in Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pailin, and Pursat provinces. Additionally, the Anlong Veng historical site, situated in the Anlong Veng district in Oddar Meanchey province, adds another layer to Cambodia’s historical narrative.
