Gov’t Prepares Roadmap for River Port Business Linked to Sea Route

The Cambodian government is developing a comprehensive plan to manage the river port business connected to sea routes, spanning from 2025 to 2033. The Ministry of Economy and Finance has announced that they are crafting a draft framework aimed at improving and overseeing the river port business and its maritime connections.

This initiative is expected to bolster Cambodia’s economic growth and regional competitiveness by enhancing the river transport system, modernising port services, and reducing logistics costs.

The framework, currently under review by the Economic and Financial Policy Committee, complements the recently enacted Law on Inland Water Transport, which aims to attract investment and enhance trade in Cambodia’s inland waterway and port sector.

The draft framework seeks to leverage modern technology to improve water transport infrastructure, thereby boosting the efficiency and quality of port services. This strategic plan is anticipated to position Cambodia as a competitive player in the regional and global markets, promoting economic growth through improved connectivity and reduced logistical expenditures.

Additionally, the Law on Inland Water Transport, enacted recently, underscores the government’s commitment to the sustainable management and development of the inland waterway and port sector. This law is designed to attract both domestic and international investments, facilitating enhanced trade and economic activity in the region. (Read more)
