Kampong Speu to Plant Tens of Thousands of Palm Trees Along Stung Prek Tnaot

The provincial authorities in Kampong Speu have announced an ambitious plan to plant tens of thousands of palm trees along the Stung Prek Tnaot River and around local resorts, aiming to enhance the area’s beauty and attract more tourists. The initiative seeks to make Kampong Speu the province with the most palm trees in Cambodia, stated by Governor HE Cheam Chansophoan during a tree-planting ceremony in Samaki Monichey District on 9 July 2024.

The governor emphasized that the project would not only focus on the riverbanks but also extend to significant tourist locations throughout the province. In his speech, he highlighted the existing abundance of palm trees in Kampong Speu and the desire to further increase their numbers to beautify the province and boost tourism.

Local authorities are also encouraged to involve residents and students in the initiative, asking each person to plant at least one palm tree or other ornamental trees. This community effort is intended to attract more tourists and preserve nature for future generations.

In a similar greening effort, Kampot provincial authorities planted 4,500 palm trees along the Cambodia-Vietnam border road in Kampong Trach district on 21 July 2024. This initiative aims to foster appreciation for palm trees among the younger generation. (Read more)
