The water Purification System worth over USD150,000 in Mondulkiri was officially inaugurated

The inauguration ceremony for a new small-scale water treatment plant project in Sen Monorom City, Mondulkiri Province, valued at over $150,000, was held on October 10, 2024. HE Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and HE UENO Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, presided over the ceremony.

During the event, HE Hem Vandy mentioned that this project was the first to receive funding from the KUSANONE grant package to build a water supply system in Cambodia. He emphasized that the assistance and cooperation from Japan have contributed to Cambodia’s ability to expand urban water supply networks to meet the growing demand for clean water in manufacturing, business, and services.

This small project, supported by the Japanese KUSANONE project, involves new equipment with a capacity of 1,000 cubic meters of clean water per day, which will increase the water production capacity in Sen Monorom from 2,000 cubic meters to 3,000 cubic meters per day. As a result, the Mondulkiri Water Supply Authority will be able to produce 50% more clean water.

To date, the Government of Japan has provided more than USD300 million in grants and nearly USD200 million in concessional financing for water supply infrastructure projects in Cambodia, including technical assistance to strengthen the capacity of both the Public Water Supply Authority and private water operators.
