Trust Sector in Cambodia on Track to Reach US$1 Billion Capital Registration by End of 2023

The Trust Regulator (TR) in Cambodia has announced a positive outlook for the country’s trust sector, with a projected capital registration of more than US$1 billion by the end of 2023. As of March 2023, the total capital registered by the TR had already reached US$940 million, with 512 trusts registered.

According to TR Director-General HE Sok Dara, the growth in the trust sector can be attributed to Cambodia’s peaceful and stable political and economic situation, as well as the confidence of foreign investors.

The trust sector has played a significant role in promoting Cambodia’s economic growth through creating and increasing investor confidence, monitoring compliance with the law, and avoiding operational risks. As a result, the trust sector has become a flexible and effective option for foreign investors looking to invest in Cambodia.

The newly enforced 2019 Trust Law has allowed foreigners to purchase land in Cambodia through a Trust Company. This method offers a less complicated alternative to forming a company and avoids the associated expenses such as taxes. The move has generated interest among foreign investors, contributing to the growth of the trust sector in Cambodia.

The trust sector’s growth is set to continue, and it is expected to reach more than US$1 billion in capital registration by the end of 2023. The TR’s positive outlook highlights the potential for foreign investors looking to invest in Cambodia’s real estate market. (Read more)
