Two Months’ Notice Given to PP Sidewalk Businesses: Demolish or Relocate

Phnom Penh municipality has placed a new order giving two months to all business owners to remove or relocate their shops located on sidewalks; otherwise face drastic legal action.

In a meeting with authorities from the 14 districts on 29 June, Phnom Penh Governor HE Khoung Sreng ordered the local authorities to take action immediately by beginning to give notices.

He added that all business operators will have two months to remove or relocate, otherwise, they will face legal actions.

“It’s time for us to organise Phnom Penh city, especially in the five main districts in the city centre. Thus, the relevant district authorities must notify those people now, especially those who showcase their motorcycles and cars along the sidewalk,” said HE

“They can move everything back into their shops or relocate their whole shop to the city outskirts,” he added.

Under this new order, those who run businesses inside their homes without encroaching on sidewalks continue to be permitted.
