134km NR3 Connecting Phnom Penh to Kampot Officially Inaugurated on 2 March

The 134km long section of Phnom Penh – Kampot NR3 was officially inaugurated on Wednesday 2 March 2022, after the construction was completed and put into temporary use since July 2021.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia HE Wang Wentian.

The project was constructed by China Bridge and Road Corporation (CRBC) and technically inspected by Guangzhou Construction Technical Consulting. The construction period was 34 months from October 2018 to July 2021.

The construction of the road section cost a total of more than US$215 million, funded by concessional financing from the Chinese government and the Cambodian government budget.

Passing through Phnom Penh, Kandal, Kampong Speu, Takeo and Kampot provinces, this project has two sections.

Section one is 69km long from Chom Chao to Bek Kus, widened to 24.5m with 4 lanes and 9cm AC pavement. This section includes the construction of 11 new bridges with a total length of 443 meters and the expansion of two old bridges with a total length of 30 meters.

Section two is 64 km long from Bek Kous to Kampot City, widened to 12m wide, with 2 lanes and 7cm AC pavement.

The project also includes the construction of 34 drains, 177 draining pipes, 271 canals, and 2 pedestrian bridges plus the installation of 10 speed cameras.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, NR3 is an important road for people to travel and transport goods between Phnom Penh to Kampot, Kep and Sihanoukville.
