Five Water Stations in PP Worth Over US$247m, Can Produce Over 1 million m3 /day

Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority will have a total production capacity of 1,100,000 m3/day and a total length of water network (water mains and water distribution network) of 5,189 km through five water supply projects worth more than US$247m after construction.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation on 4 November, the five projects include:

1- Bak Kheng Water Supply Project, Phase 1, capacity 195,000 m3/ day, and total water network length of 750 km, which is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2023.

2_ Bak Kheng Water Supply Project, Phase 2, capacity 195,000 m3/ day and total water network length of 188 km, which is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2024. It should be noted that the two-phase Bak Kheng water supply project has a total investment of US$190m, which is co-financed by the French Development Agency, the European Investment Bank, and the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority. 3_ Projects to expand the water supply system of Takhmao city with a capacity of 30,000m3/ day, which is scheduled to be completed in December 2024. The project uses a total budget of about US$32m, a grant from the Japanese government. (Read more)

4_ Projects to expand the water supply system of the Prek Phum village factory from 150,000 m3 / day to 195,000 m3 / day, which is scheduled to start construction in 2026. The Japanese government has decided to provide more than US$23 million in grants for a project to expand the Prek Phum water supply system to Cambodia.  (Read more)

5_ Projects to build a Boeung Thom water supply system with a capacity of 5,000 m3/ day and a total water supply system with a total length of 12 km. Construction of the project began in August 2022 and is scheduled to be completed in February 2023, with a grant from the Government of Japan of US$1,494,624 and a contribution of the Phnom Penh Autonomous Authority of US$931,900.  (Read more)

The five-year project will be able to supply clean, safe, sustainable, and affordable water to more than 610,800 households in Phnom Penh and Takhmao.

Meanwhile, the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority is continuing to cooperate with development partners to study the Bak Kheng Water Supply Project, Phase 3, Niroth Water Supply Project, Phase 3, Water Supply Project, Techo Takhmao International Airport and Water Supply Project. Currently, the demand for clean water in Phnom Penh as a whole is about 746,000m3/ day, while the capacity of the four water treatment plants is only 630,000m3/ day.
