PPWSA Plans 5,000 Cubic Metre Water Treatment Plant Near Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone

The Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority plans to build a water treatment plant in Boeung Thom area, near Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone with a capacity of 5,000 cubic metres per day.

Speaking at a press conference at the Royal Government Spokesperson’s Unit on 09 June, HE Long Naro, Director General of the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority, said that the construction of the water treatment plant was funded by the Japanese government through the Japanese Embassy in Cambodia.

The project will be built in August or September and is scheduled to launch in the second or second quarter of 2024, he said.

“We need to build another water treatment plant in Boeung Thom, in the area of the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone, which pumps water from the Prek Tnaot River with a production capacity of 5,000 cubic metres per day for temporarily use. This is to ensure the supply of clean water to people in the Phleung Chhes Rotes commune, which currently does not have clean water yet,” he said.

The water consumption in Phnom Penh and Takhmao city, Kandal province, is currently more than 800,000 cubic metres per day, while the water supply by the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority is only 600,000 cubic metres per day.
