Japanese firms seeking investment opportunities in renewable energy

Japanese companies are looking for opportunities to invest in renewable energy projects, according to the outcome of a meeting between H.E. Say Samal, Minister of Environment and representatives from seven companies.

According to a post on the ministry’s Facebook page on 22 September, the firms are looking for opportunities to invest in renewable energy projects, the solid waste industry, the timber industry, organic food, and elderly care service in Cambodia.

At the meeting, Green Power Techno presented two sterling engines to the ministry while Angkor Bio Cogen also presented on Carbon Certification.

The projects come as Cambodia has been cooperating with Japan since 2014 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on an initiative known as the ‘Joint Carbon Credit Mechanism’. Currently, Cambodia is successfully implementing six projects using advanced Japanese technologies related to public lighting, solar power generation, energy efficiency, protection, and conservation of natural resources.

The arrival of Japanese investors came after Cambodia agreed in principle for Japan to develop its Smart Cities Network in Cambodia to deal with issues such as housing, traffic jams and environment. (Read more)
