US$1 billion Spent on Road Infrastructure and Energy

The Royal Government of Cambodia has spent this year roughly US$1 billion as a public investment on building infrastructure in Sihanoukville province and installing 400 MW-power plants near Phnom Penh.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony at the National Institute of Education, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that the government is capable to collect income for expenditure as the income from taxation and customs and excise are expected to surpass this year.

“We are capable enough to collect income to support all public investment immediately. As by now, we have cash on hand about US$3 billion enough for expenditures,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen said.
The income from the customs and excise and income from taxation are expected to exceed over the set budget plan this year, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said, cited that the income from customs and excise is expected to surpass US$700 million to US$800 million and income from taxation is expected to surpass US$400 million to $500 million.

Cambodia can save US$100 million US$200 million each month and the total income is about US$500 million per month, he said.

Last week, the government spent close to US300 million on building 34 roads in Sihanoukville city, plus with existing $600 million has been already injected on the investment.

Additionally, more than US$300 million has been used this year for installation of 400 MW power plant in Kandal province with aims to produce power to supply to Phnom Penh.
