Construction on Vietnam’s Largest Airport Project to Begin Next Month

The US$4 billion Long Thanh International Airport project, Vietnam’s largest airport, will break ground next month, according to VnExpress.

Located about 40km east of Ho Chi Minh City in Dong Nai province, the airport will be built on an area of 1,800 hectares.

The first phase includes the construction of a 75-metre wide, 4-kilometre long runway and a 373,000-sq-m terminal designed to serve 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo a year.

The first phase is scheduled to be completed in 2025.

Meanwhile, two other phases will be completed before 2040, which will add three more runways and four passenger terminals, will which be able to handle 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo per year.

Lai Xuan Thanh, chairman of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) said that the developer had signed a memorandum of understanding for about US$6.1 billion in loans with 12 organisations. However, for the first phase, the project worth only US$4.3 billion.
