Japan Provides More Grant Aid for Development Projects in Three Provinces

The Japanese government has agreed to provide approximately US$400,000 in grant aid to Cambodia to develop infrastructure in three provinces including Koh Kong, Kampong Chhnang and Mondulkiri.

According to the Japanese Embassy’s press release quoted by AKP on 18 December, US$196,350 will be used for road improvements in Andong Teuk commune, Botum Sakor district, Koh Kong province.

Another US$90,158 will be used to rehabilitate the irrigation system in Kampong Chhnang, and the remaining funds will be used for strengthening the agricultural sector in Koh Nhek district and Sen Monorom City of Mondulkiri province.

The aid will be delivered to Koh Kong Provincial Department of Public Works and Transport, Kampong Chhnang Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology, and Mondulkiri Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, respectively under Japan’s economic cooperation framework, the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, according to AKP.

The Japanese government is also currently providing approximately US$35 million in grant aid to restore seven bridges in Prey Veng and Kratie provinces at risk of flooding. (Read more)

To date, Japan has provided at least US$1 billion in funds, including grant aid and loans for Cambodia infrastructure development, according to the Minister of Public Works and Transport. (Read more)
