Japan Provides Over 52 million Yen in Aid to Build Healthcare Facilities & Technical Equipment in Five Provinces

The Japanese government has agreed to provide over 52 million yen in aid (approximately US$ 480,000) to build healthcare facilities and some technical equipment in Mondulkiri, Preah Vihear, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville and Kampong Chhnang provinces.

The grant contracts were signed yesterday between Japan Ambassador to Cambodia HE Mikami Masahiro, and the representatives of the five recipients respectively, to carry out the projects as follows:
• Installing Water Hyacinth Bioethanol Equipment in Kampong Chhnang: US$169,750
• Constructing Maternity Ward at Toul Health Centre in Mondulkiri: US$89,138
• Constructing IPD Ward at Chhep Health Centre in Preah Vihear: US$89,369
• Providing a Mobile Rehabilitation Clinic Vehicle in Remote Areas in Siem Reap: US$45,745
• Installing Medical Equipment at Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Infirmary in Preah Sihanouk: US$89,202

According to the embassy press release, the aid is being provided under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, known as the KUSANONE Grant.

Japan’s “KUSANONE” Projects started in Cambodia in 1991 in order to support Cambodia’s reconstruction and development at the grassroots level. The assistance aims to protect those who are vulnerable, as well as to promote the self-reliance of local communities.

Since 1991, the Government of Japan has provided over US$63 million in aid for mainly local authorities and non-governmental organizations to implement 647 KUSANONE projects throughout Cambodia.
