New Large-Scale Wastewater Treatment Plant Set for Battambang, Current Construction 5% Complete

The western part of Battambang City will have another new large-scale wastewater treatment plant with a capacity to treat up to 12,000 cubic metres of wastewater per day, with construction scheduled to begin this year.

In the meantime, construction on the current drainage system and wastewater treatment plant on the east side of the city is now about 5% complete, according to an official at the Department of Public Works and Transport of Battambang Province (Battambang MPWT) on 15 June.

Deputy Director of Battambang MPWT Kem Sokuntheary said that the current east side project is being constructed on over 10 hectares of land and has the capacity to treat up to 8,000 cubic meters of wastewater. After treatment, this water can also be used to irrigate crops.

With the construction beginning in December 2020, the project is scheduled to be completed in the next two and a half years.
