Transport Minister: Final studies for PP-Bavet Expressway Completed Late This Year

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has urged private companies to complete detailed studies for the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway by the end of this year at the latest, with the aim of turning the kingdom’s second expressway into reality as soon as possible.

MPWT Minister HE Sun Chanthol made the request during an inspection of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway site on the morning of 21 June.

“The framework agreement has been signed for the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway project. At this stage, private companies are still studying it and we have given them time until the end of the year,” said HE Sun Chanthol.

“After they submit the study to us, we will finalise the cost, location, and feasibility. I would like to declare that the project is moving forward and not backward,” he added.

The project has been thus far been studied by both China and Japan. In September 2020, China Railway International Group Co., Ltd revealed three designs for this project. Likewise, JICA also presented a study. However, the government has not to decided on anything to date. (Read more)
