Construction of 700-megawatt Coal-Fired Power Plant in Koh Kong 10% Complete

Construction on the US$1.1-billion 700-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Koh Kong province has been approximately 10%, completed according to a senior official at the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

HE Victor Jona, Director General of Energy of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, said on Wednesday 28 July that the construction project has seemly been behind the schedule, so the company still has a long way to go.

“Currently, the company is still preparing the ground. The company has more time on this work,” he said.

According to the plan, the energy project is scheduled to be launched by 2025.

Located on a 168-hectare lands plot in Thmor Sor and Chamlang Kou villages in Botum Sakor district, this project was invested in and is being implemented by Botum Sakor Energy Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Royal Group.

The Botum Sakor Energy Co., Ltd in November last year signed an agreement to allow Chinese firm Sinosteel Engineering & Technology to work on the design, procurement and supply of the equipment and materials as well as construction and commissioning services. (Read more)

The contract includes the construction of a new 350-megawatt power plant, ancillary production and transmission facilities, as well as a coal terminal.
