HE Chiao Tai made the request during the progress follow-up meeting with the relevant officers on Thursday 21 October.

He said during the meeting that to date, the provincial administration and the construction team are strongly cooperating to deal with any obstructions to the project, to ensure that that it continues on schedule.

The Prek Kdam – Pursat and Pursat – Battambang are scheduled for completion in 2022 and 2023. However, for the section between Serey Sophorn and Poi Pet, MPWT is bidding for a construction firm, so the road construction is expected to be completed in 2024.

The renovation of NR5 has a total length of 366km connecting the capital to the northwestern part of the country passing through Kompong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey provinces.

The road will be upgraded to Asphalt Concrete (AC) and expanded to four lanes with a width of 23m. The project is being undertaken with a loan of US$500 million from the Japanese government.
