Solar Power to Account for 20% of Energy Supply by 2023

Seven solar PV projects with a total power of 495 mW are expected to be put into operation by 2023, which will account for approximately 20% of the kingdom’s energy supply.

HE Ith Praing, Permanent Secretary of States at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, said this in the Singapore-IRENA High-Level Forum on 26 October.

He added that solar energy currently shares only 9% of the country’s power supply. However, given the projects in the pipeline, it will account for 20% of the total supply by 2023.

Currently, Cambodia has existing solar power stations cumulatively of some 160 mW, located in Bavet city, Svay Rieng province, Kampong Speu province and in Kampong Chhnang province.
