Construction Starts on Cambodia’s Largest Biomass Power Plant

Heineken Cambodia has begun the construction of its biomass power plant to generate thermal energy for its brewing process.

The company said during the ground-breaking event held on 8 December that the plant will be Cambodia’s largest Biomass Power Plant as a key part of the firm’s commitment to Brew a Better Cambodia.

Built under a partnership with BECIS, this biomass plant represents an investment of US$5.8 million.

A biomass plant uses excess organic material to create heat, known as renewable thermal energy, that will be used in the brewing process, the company said.

The biomass plant will utilise rice husks sourced from the nearby Prey Veng province to generate steam and transfer it to their brewing house.

With the support of the Ministry of Environment, Heineken will continue to turn initiatives into action by recycling, reducing, and reusing as much as possible along every step of their value chain.

The biomass plant is part of the company’s ambition to reduce our CO2 emissions by investing in renewable energies in order to reach net zero in our production by 2030.
