Japan Provides Grant Aid to Build Schools, Water Resources & Irrigation System

The Japanese government has provided more than US$280,000 in grant aid to three Cambodian provinces including Steung Treng, Ratanakiri and Kampong Speu to build schools and rehabilitate irrigation systems.

According to a press release from the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, these funds are under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (“KUSANONE”).

The assistance agreements were signed by Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia HE Mikami Masahiro and representatives of the three recipients on Monday 20 December.

Of the three projects, US$98,317 will be granted to the construction of a school building at O’Yadao Secondary School in O’Yadao district, Ratanakkiri province.

Another US$91,566 will be provided to the Steung Treng Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sports to build school buildings at Orussey Leu 1 and Orussey Leu 2 primary schools in Siem Bok district.

For another US$90,495, Japan will provide to the Department of Water Resources and Meteorology of Kampong Speu province for the rehabilitation of an existing dam and two drainage canals in Samrong Tong District, Kampong Speu province.

Since 1991, the Government of Japan has provided more than US$64 million to local authorities and NGOs to implement 651 KUSANONE projects throughout Cambodia.
