Cambodia requests S.Korea to help develop water transport infrastructure

The Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol has requested the Korea Economic Cooperation Fund (EDCF) to consider the feasibility of assisting in the development of the waterway transport system in Cambodia.

This proposal was made during a courtesy meeting between Ms Minnie Chey, New EDCF Country Director for Cambodia and HE Sun Chanthol on Tuesday 25 January.

During the meeting, HE Chanthol requested EDCF to explore the possibility of developing major waterway transportation systems along main rivers such as the Bassac, Lower Mekong and Upper Mekong.

Expanding the waterway transport network will help reduce transportation and logistics costs, he added.

In response, Ms Minnie Chey said South Korea would continue to contribute to the development of Cambodia’s infrastructure.

On this occasion, HE Chanthol also thanked the Government of the Republic of Korea for helping to build infrastructure in Cambodia for instance the NR2, NR22, NR48, among others.
