Mines Minister urges Japanese firm to invest in low-carbon energy infrastructure in Cambodia

The Ministry of Mines and Energy has encouraged Japanese investors to consider investing in clean or low-carbon energy as well as sustainable energy infrastructure in Cambodia.

The remark was made by HE Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy, in the meeting with HE Mikami Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia on Thursday.

In the meeting, HE Suy Sem stated that Cambodia is now embracing the use of renewable energy sources with the new policy of no longer approving new coal-fired power plants.

With that green development goal in mind, the Minister requested the Ambassador to help boost and mobilize more Japanese investment companies into Cambodia, especially in the green power plant development sector.

For his part, HE Mikami Masahiro stated that the Embassy of Japan intends to explore more about Cambodia’s carbon neutrality energy project, renewable energy sources, and other environmentally friendly energy sources.
