Oman’s US$1bn Sustainable Tourism City Launched in Oman

Oman has officially launched the first phase of its US$1-billion mega coastal tourism city development— the Yiti Sustainable City.

Spreading on over 100ha of land in Muscat, the project is being implemented by Tourism Development Company (Omran Group) and Diamond Developers.

According to the firm’s press release on 30 March, the first phase will include 1,657 energy-efficient residential units, shopping malls, schools, an equestrian centre, and the “SEE lab” to showcase the latest green technology.

Yiti will also be the first in the Gulf state to meet global best practices in sustainable development with most of its energy gained from solar power and biogas.

It will also grow many of its own vegetables, recycle its water and waste, and will have car-free zones where only autonomous shuttles are allowed.

This first phase is scheduled to be completed in 2025 while the next two phases will be announced later this year.
